Whether you are chopping tomatoes for the bowl or finding the rhythm on the dance floor, salsa is all about adding a little extra spice to your day!

Through hands-on demonstrations, CCE Seneca Master Food Preservers will demonstrate how to safely preserve salsa. Participants will learn how to make basic tomato salsa and tomatillo green salsa, along with salsa incorporated with fruit.

Most salsas are mixtures of low-acid foods such as onions and peppers with acidic foods such as tomatoes or fruit. It is important that ingredients be carefully measured and that the salsas be made as described to be processed safely in a boiling water bath. It is important not to can other salsa recipes unless they have been properly researched for safety.

CCE Seneca is a helpful resource for food safety information. Check out our online resources for food preservation safety at http://senecacountycce.org/food-family/food-preservation or http://nchfp.uga.edu
