Agricultural Literacy Week - Monday, March 16 - Friday, March 20, 2026
Second grade teachers and volunteers who are interested in participating in New York Ag Literacy Week call Rachel Williams. You can offer your support is as a volunteer reader!

Agricultural Literacy Week, offered statewide through New York Agriculture in the Classroom, pairs volunteers with classrooms to read Chelsea Tornetto's Seasons on the Farm and lead a simple, hands-on activity. The story highlights how the seasons shape farming and food production, including beef, while helping students understand the journey from farm to plate. By exploring what spring, summer, fall, and winter look like on a family farm, students gain a greater appreciation for the people who work year-round to produce food.

This year's featured book highlights beef production—making it a great opportunity for New York beef producers to connect with local classrooms.

Whether you volunteer, donate, or both, your involvement helps students better understand agriculture and New York beef.

Volunteer to read

Volunteers will visit local elementary schools during Ag Literacy Week to read and talk to children about New York's agriculture industry. Contact Rachel if you are interested.

At the conclusion of the day's activities, the book will be donated to the school library for students and teachers to use throughout the school year.

Donate a book

Books are $15 each, donated to the school or library after being read. Donors are recognized with a bookplate and may choose a specific school or read the book themselves.
