Are you interested in drone technology and geographic information systems (GIS)? Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga, Seneca, and Schuyler County are offering a one-day educational event about GIS and Drones.
Participants will make a map in a college GIS-computer lab, take aerial photos with a drone, and see a professional-grade drone fly and capture aerial photos. Participants will also see how information captured from a drone is put into a map using GIS. Presenters include Dr. Abu Badruddin, GIS Professor at Cayuga Community College, and Maylin Murdock, Cornell Ph.D student in the School of Integrative Plant Science.
This educational event is perfect for anyone curious about mapping, and learning how geospatial technology (Geographic Information Systems, a.k.a. GIS) and drones are shaping the future — whether you’re a farmer, aspiring student, professional, or just drone-curious. Ryan Staychock, Environmental/Natural Resources Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga, Seneca, and Schuyler County said “this is a great opportunity to understand how drones help people make good decisions about soil, water, crops, and forests. It’s great career exploration for youth, and an opportunity to learn how this technology can be applied on farms - everyone likes drones, and this is a way to experience them in a quasi-academic setting.”
The fee to attend this program is $20 and lunch (pizza and salad) is included. Parking is free. Current Cayuga Community College students, area High School Students entering Junior year and older are FREE to attend, but registration is still required because space is limited.
$20/person includes lunch; FREE for current CCC and area high school Jrs and Srs
