Plant-based foods consist primarily of whole foods derived from plants, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains, with little to no animal products. These nutrient-dense foods are rich in vitamins, fiber and antioxidants, supporting heart health and providing high-quality protein. Plant-based foods effectively complement other foods by enhancing nutrient absorption, completing protein profiles, and acting as versatile meat alternatives, which may reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers.
