It’s the height of the produce growing season in the Finger Lakes! Peaches, apples, berries, and vegetables are in abundance in gardens, Farmers’ Markets, and at the produce stands. And, perhaps, you have some beef roasts or venison in your freezer from last season that can be made into meat jerky!

Avoid the cost and/or the artificial additives of store-bought dehydrated foods by learning how to make your own products with fresh ingredients from Cornell Cooperative Extension Nutrition staff and Master Food Preservers.

Learn how to:

  • Dehydrate fruit to make fruit leathers and dried fruit which are delicious and healthy snacks for kids and adults alike.
  • Dehydrate vegetables to make soup mixes which are nutritious, tasty, and shelf stable meals to bring camping or give away as gifts.
  • Make meat jerky using whole cuts of meat and using no preservatives.

Participants will receive taste samples, recipes, and an item to bring home.
