Venison Chili Cook-Off

  • Saturday, May 28, 2016, 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Wild Harvest Table are challenging you to get your game on and bring your best venison chili to be judged at the Celebrate/Commemorate Memorial Day Festival in Waterloo, NY on Saturday, May 28th. This year marks the 150th anniversary of Memorial Day, with its birthplace in Waterloo, NY!

Does your sportsman’s club make the best venison chili at game dinners and club functions? And/or do your family and friends always say you make the best venison chili in town? Come prove it at Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension’s first ever Venison Chili Cook-Off! We are having a team category for the best sportsman’s club venison chili and the best individual venison chili with prizes awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in each category. The winning club will also receive a trophy to proudly display.

How it works -

1. Register your venison chili entry with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Seneca County by phone (315-539-9251) or by email (seneca@cornell.edu) by May 23rd, 2016.

2. Create your most delicious venison chili recipe and bring a hot sample for tasting on Saturday, May 28th from 3:30-4PM to the Cornell Cooperative Extension Culinary Tent in Lafayette Park at Waterloo’s Celebrate/Commemorate Memorial Day festival. Also bring a copy of the recipe- so keep track of ingredients and amounts as you make it!

3. Our (locally) famous judges will taste samples at 4PM and winners will be announced at 4:30PM. 1st place club winner will receive a $100 and a trophy to display at the club, 2nd place club winner will receive a gift basket from Bass Pro Shops in Auburn. 1st place individual winner will receive a $100 and the 2nd place individual winner will receive a gift basket from Bass Pro.

4. Winners will be celebrated and publicized in local media. Recipes with acknowledgements will also be posted on the Wild Harvest Table website, www.wildharvesttable.com (if winner is willing to share).

Don’t miss this opportunity to win those bragging rights about your Venison Chili for you and your club!
