What: The New York, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Vermont 4-HShooting Sports Programs' Annual Winter Workshop certifies volunteer leaders as 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors. The workshop features the following disciplines (based on a minimum enrollment of 5 participants): Pistol, Archery, Hunting, Muzzle Loading, Rifle, and Shotgun. Adults will be certified to teach the applicable discipline to youth participating in formal 4-H Shooting Sports Programs and 4-H Camps. Each state maintains its own standards for certification. Certification standards may exceed those established by the National 4-H Shooting Sports Committee. Participants will be able to complete requirements in only one discipline. All equipment will be supplied. This Workshop and Instructors adhere to all National 4-H Shooting Sports curriculum standards. Form Code 1501 for NYS participants.

A major focus of the Workshop will be on 4-H Club Development and elements of the 4-H STEM Program.

When: February 21 - 23 are in-person. Friday time TBD, then instruction. Saturday begins at 7:00 AM breakfast and moves into training at 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM, dinner to follow and auction. Sunday training begins with breakfast at 7:30 AM; disciplines at 8:00 AM until 2:30 PM. Registrations are due by Friday, February 7, 2025.

Where: The Workshop will be held at the 4-H Training Center, 556 Middle Une Road, Ballston Spa, NY.

Who: The Workshop is for adults currently involved in 4-H Shooting Sports as well as those interested in becoming Instructors. Teen Leaders are welcome and will be recognized as Junior Leaders in selected project area. Our goal is to involve people who are interested in teaching youth how to shoot safely through the principles of 4-H Shooting Sports as well as educate them on our natural environment. This workshop will certify that individuals are trained to be an Instructor. Local counties are responsible for approving and registering you as a participant. The VIP Orientation must be completed to participate.

Training: A minimum of 14 hours of training the 4-H way- "Learning by Doing."

Cost: The registration fee is for 4-H Volunteers and 4-H Camp Staff who need a hotel room, over 2 hours away. The fee will be $190 which includes materials, 2 nights, double occupancy, meals: Friday night dinner on your own, Saturday all meals, breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Local without hotel is $110. All other costs are supported through the efforts of the New York State 1:H Shooting Sports Committee and our donors. If you are placed with a roommate and choose to get a single room, you will be responsible for that fee. County/regional teams are the first priority. To secure your spot, you MUST pay ahead of time. We will be holding an informal fun auction with proceeds used towards the cost of the Workshop. We en­courage participants and counties to bring one or more auction items!

Important: We are unable to accommodate food preferences/allergies, some vegetarian options will be available. You are welcome to bring your own food, snacks and beverages. Additional information will be provided along with a tentative menu, on line or via email.
