CCE Seneca and the Cornell Master Forest Owner program (MFO) invites you to an educational hybrid workshop. Participants can join either in person or virtually via Zoom. Those who attend virtually, will receive a link to join via Zoom, prior to the workshop.
The workshop will start with a portable sawmill demonstration followed by educational programming to help landowners learn how to manage their private forest.
Managing Your Forest is intended to help landowners learn about resources to help them actively manage their forested lands. “Many people have small forests and they want to use them for hiking, hunting, maple syrup or timber income” said Ryan Staychock, CCE Seneca Environmental Educator. Staychock added “this workshop will inspire people to manage their forests, especially at a time when NY Forests are under attack from invasive species and over browsed by white-tailed deer.”
NYS DEC Region 8 Forester Brice June will discuss the fundamentals of a forest stewardship plan and summarize how qualified landowners can leverage a cost-free forest stewardship plan. Peter Smallidge, the NYS Extension Forester and director of Cornell’s Arnot Forest, will discuss Best Management Practices for Small Parcels. Master Forest Owner Regional Director Lydia Williams, along with New York Forest Owners Association’s Dale Schaefer, will summarize various forestry related programs including the MFOs program. Certificates of attendance will be available for anyone that wishes to use this educational programming for professional development.
