Beginner Maple Producer Workshop

  • Wednesday, January 25, 2023, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Winter is that time of year for making that sweet tasting amber liquid we call maple syrup. Whether you are a homeowner with a few maple trees in the yard or a landowner with a woodlot containing many maple trees, the steps and process for making maple syrup are the same. If you have ever thought about producing your own maple syrup or are a new maple syrup producer interested in updating your operation, we have the workshop for you.

On Wednesday evening, January 25, 2023, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County is offering a Beginner Maple Workshop. Aaron Wightman, Maple Specialist and Co-director of the Cornell University Maple Program will be the presenter. In this workshop Aaron will provide an overview of the essential skills and knowledge to successfully collect sap, produce sellable Grade A maple syrup and produce value-added products such as maple cream. The workshop will include a combination of hands-on activities, classroom learning and a live demonstration. What better way to teach young people about the mystery of how and when sap flows from a tree and how this clear nearly tasteless sap can be turned into a sweet amber syrup than to produce it yourself. It’s an activity the whole family can enjoy and its not all that difficult. Just a few simple tools and supplies and you’re on your way to producing your own winter sweetness.

The fee is $10.00 per family. Advance registration is required by Monday, January 23, 2023. If interested, contact Cornell Cooperative Extension at 585-394-3977 x 427 or email: nea8@cornell.edu with your name, address and phone number.
