"Awesome Alpacas" Workshop

  • Saturday, October 1, 2016, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Perhaps you have seen a cute alpaca at a summer festival. Maybe you have admired alpaca wool socks at a winter craft show. If you are interested in learning more about these interesting animals, plan to attend “Awesome Alpacas” on Saturday, October 1st.

Cabin View Alpacas is graciously offering a hands-on workshop for Seneca County 4-H. The event will take place at their farm, 9435 Congress Street Ext., Trumansburg. The workshop will start at 10am and continue until about noon.

Youth can expect to get a great overview of what it is like to own and work with alpacas. They will find out what they are used for, how to care for them, and what it is liked to show them.

The Cabin View herd is located just north of Trumansburg and tended to by the Houseworth family. They operate a gift shop with yarn made from alpaca fiber, rugs, socks, and more. The Houseworth family also exhibits their award winning alpaca at nationally sanctioned alpaca shows up and down the east coast.

Registration for this event is requested by Monday, September 26. Space is limited, so be sure to visit senecacountycce.org to register as soon as possible.

To learn more about the 4-H Alpaca project or other animal science projects, contact Susan at the 4-H Office, smc226@cornell.edu or 315-539-9251. 4-H is open to youth ages 5 to 19 and is part of Cornell Cooperative Extension.
