Activities/Events
Master Gardeners’ have a display at the Seneca County Fair each year. Past displays have included weed identification, hypertufa pots and leaves and water gardening. Information is available on many aspects of gardening and master gardeners staff the booth during peak hours to answer questions. Come and visit us each year in July at the fair and take away new information to use in your yard or garden. This year the fair will be held July 21st to 25th.
Empire Farm DaysMaster Gardeners’ have a display each year at Empire Farm Days (Empire Farm Days). Past displays have included hypertufa pots and leaves and a pond and waterfall display. Our display and information table are located in the New York State Grange Tent in the Northwest corner of Empire Farm Days. EFD is held the second Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of August each year at the Rodman Lott Farm site on Route 414 in Seneca Falls. Each morning there are informative and instructional talks given in the grange tent, one of which is done by a Seneca County Master Gardener or educator on the topic of choice that year. These topics range from gardening tips to a demonstration of how to make hypertufa leaves for your own yard or waterfall. Come and see us and check out the new display.
Workshops
Seneca County MG’s strive to bring the public informative and interesting workshops on many subjects. Past workshops have included how to prune, how to make bird, bat and butterfly houses and hypertufa pot and leaf making workshops. If you have a suggestion for a future workshop you’d like to see, please email us (pap11@cornell.edu) or call us at 315-539-9251.
Plant Swap – SpringEach year on the Saturday before Mother’s Day, we hold our annual plant swap. Imagine paying almost nothing for new plants to add to your lawn or garden! All you have to do is dig up some plants from your garden that need dividing and bring them to the swap. That includes flowers, fruit, veggies, shrubs, even trees. You can even divide houseplants or start some plants from seed. For every plant you bring, you can pick a plant to take with you for your own garden. It’s a great way to try out new plants for just $1.00. We typically have over 100 plants to choose from!
